How far back from your original fence did you set the posts for the cantilever gate? 6″ or a 12″? Thanks for the great writeup!
The gate’s posts are about 6″ away from the fence.

As far apart as you could. In my case, it is 1/3 of the length of the gate, which is about 6 ft apart.
